Ketchikan をどう歩くか
Ketchikan をうまく読むには、town core を四層で考えると分かりやすいです。 まず waterfront と Front Street。 次に Creek Street と Thomas Basin。 そして downtown museums。 最後に town の外へ少し伸ばす totem parks と rainforest interpretation。
つまり Ketchikan は “クルーズでさっと見る町” ではなく、 compact core から outer cultural sites へきれいに広がる town です。 歩きの町であり、同時に short side-trip の町でもある。
Creek Street は、Ketchikan を “ただの port town” で終わらせない

Tongass Historical Museum は downtown で town history を整理する起点として強く、 Totem Heritage Center は 19世紀の poles と Native arts interpretation の核になります。 Southeast Alaska Discovery Center はさらに Tongass whole-region の入口になる。
この three-layer があるから、Ketchikan は小さく見えて actually very deep です。
